[30 Jun 2009|02:57pm]

Just four hours north of San Francisco we will celebrate under the stars surrounded by the majestic Sierra mountains. The beautiful Feather River runs adjacent to the campgrounds and is accessible for rafting and swimming during the days. The event location has plenty of camping under the trees and an old-style saloon for drinks, snacks and water. We strongly encourage you to take one of our buses or share a ride with someone! Saves gas money, easier on the parking, and it’s way more fun.

Please drive carefully and slowly. Enjoy the scenery.

New Release : KiloWatts : Undercurrent [15 Jun 2009|05:47pm]

KiloWatts - Undercurrent

with this album, I wanted to focus on the essence of melody and expose it in a raw form through the electronic medium. the source of the main melodies came from repetitive hooks I found myself sporadically singing or humming during day to day business. think of the joyful tunes whistled during a walk. these melodic mantras seem to pop up out of nowhere and go on repeating forever.

when I'd notice this, I'd hang onto the melody until I could get to the studio and bang it out, no matter how obvious or straightforward it was. once the main melodies and inflections were out, I could carefully construct an audio bedding for them and see where it led. from a larger perspective, I felt that the search for these melodies was similar to unearthing subconscious archetypes that drive reality. the process was like discovering an ever-flowing undercurrent of reality that can be translated directly into melody.

in this case, it felt that the source of them all must absolutely be love.

limited to 777 copies worldwide, soy inks on recycled paper, sewn and sealed in wax with incredible cover art by ray massini

Album Release : Voodeux : The Paranormal [01 May 2009|03:48pm]

Voodeux - The Paranormal CD /Triple Pack Vinyl

>click for audio samples<

Artist: Voodeux
Title: The Paranormal
Formats: Full Length CD, Limited Edition 3x Vinyl Pack
Cat-N°: MSHIP019
Release date: CD June 10th. 2009/3x Vinyl June 2nd. 2009

Two years ago, on the East Coast of America, a couple of highly technical production wizards joined forces and created their own genre of strange and creepy techno under the moniker, Voodeux. One from Boston and the other from Philadelphia, Tanner Ross and James Watts first released “The Curse” EP on mothership in 2008 with great success. With DJ support rolling in from everywhere Claude VonStroke soon commissioned them to record a full-length album of this new moody sound.

Voodeux’s debut album, “The Paranormal” is a concentrated vision of myth and mysterious beats, exploring the eerie after-life side of techno like no other artists have done to date. It is a 10 track vision of ghosts and goblins hiding in the closet ready to scare the daylights out of you. Using dark funk, ghoulish atmospheres and futuristic production, Voodeux is staking their claim as the next generation of American techno and “The Paranormal” is a techno masterwork for the modern underworld.

New Release : Voodeux : Just A Spoonful [01 May 2009|03:47pm]

Voodeux - Just A Spoonful

>click for audio samples<

Artist: Voodeux
Title: Just A Spoonful
Cat-N°: MSHIP018
Release date: May 2009

Are you drowning in a sea of organs, flutes, trumpets & chants on top of 90’s house loops? We have the cure for you here at mothership. “Just a Spoonful” is the lead single from Voodeux’s new full length album called “The Paranormal.“ The track can best be described as techno you would play at a submarine pajama party. It’s playful, groovy and somewhat reminiscent of early Steve Bug.

On the flip, “Deadened Motel” is a rare mix of congo vibey house beats with searing techno leads that shoot up out of the track in the 2nd half.

Sun 29th 2pm EST - Somnia Records Showcase Mixed by KiloWatts

Somnia
'Music For The Spaces Inbetween

Somnia is an independent music label releasing ambient, electronic, minimalist, modern classical, electro acoustic, and "other" recordings. The goal of somnia is to create music that values art above marketing, passion above product, aesthetics above excel documents, and a focus on individual expression over playing it safe and fitting things into nice little genre boxes. Sometimes art needs to exist for a short period of time, and fade away in order to have meaning. in an age of mass proliferation of data, where any bit of information is accessible from anywhere at any point in time, we are interested in providing a forum for something "hand made", that cant be duplicated en masse. Every somnia release is special. special music, and special packaging, special love, special ideas, and special intention put into every single piece of art/music we construct.

Track List:

01) Evan Bartholomew – Secret Entries Into Darkness
02) Emanuele Errante – Fecunda
03) Motionfield – Horizon
04) Evan Bartholomew – Leaving Behind Our Memories
05) KiloWatts – Rode Falls

I'm playing twice this weekend here in Philly.

First I'll be performing some new downtempo material late Friday to showcase the beginning stages of a new project with Archedream For Humankind entitled "Rise Of Collaboration". Watch the introductory video here.

Then, on Saturday, I'll be DJing on a more uptempo scale to open the Gaian Mind Monthly for Nomolos of Zenon Records, and then Random, in from San Fran.

Interview : Openlabs : Making Music Remotely [12 Mar 2009|10:04pm]
I recently did an interview for Openlabs about the art of making electronic music remotely.

"As technology continues to make strides, more and more artists are finding themselves left alone in their studios; while endless piles of gadgets replace people, and become an artist's sole source of inspiration. Where there were once groups of artists discussing the levels on the bass line, there are now lonely sound engineers, pushing buttons and sliding faders. But it doesn't have to be so solitary. Working remotely, while not a new phenomenon, is becoming progressively easier and producing better quality music."

New Release : Voodeux : Bones EP : Mothership [06 Feb 2009|06:22pm]

Bones

Skeleton Key

Artist: Voodeux
Title: Bones EP
Label: Mothership (MSHIP015)
Format: Vinyl
Presales: December 10th 2009
Release date: February 14th 2009

Like the alien skull that adorns its cover, Voodeux’s Bones EP is certainly from another place and time. Picking up where their 2007 The Curse EP left off, sonic madmen Tanner Ross and KiloWatts have refined and sharpened their signature sound into 1,000 needlepoints, bound directly for the back of your neck. This is techno for a horror movie set in deep space. Reach for Bones if you have a crowd peaking and you want to rip their heads off. Burly slabs of bass rain down like Easter Island statues, while relentless crystalline atmospherics splinter endlessly towards the horizon. Skeleton Key is no less ominous, broadcasting its spidery main theme over an ever-evolving, increasingly paranoid chord sequence. Once the kick drops back in, the chords frost over with a layer of ice, smashing through the frame with all the subtlety of a yeti attack.

Love On Saturn

TLM018

Philadelphia's James Watts is back in action: following his releases as one half of Mothership's Voodeux, he continues to develop his distinctive Thoughtless sound with playful grooves, twisted melodic structures and plenty of spacey effects. Defining a new hybrid of techno and house all his own - with influences ranging from intergalactic jazz to visionary funk - this collection might just be enough to make you fall in love, regardless of the planet you're on...

01. Love On Saturn
02. Polar Orbit
03. Hyperion Hustle
04. Hyperion Hustle (In Retrograde)

"Amazing release as always from KiloWatts. I seriously don't know which track is best for me - the whole thing is fookin retarded. I do know I'll give each track a try. Great job, Thoughtless!" - Maetrik (Treibstoff, Mothership)

"Another discordant plucky pilgrimage into insanity. Speechless, sound design from another planet! Kilo's percussion and bass are hip prompting and sexy" - Sean Anderson (Harmonious Discord)

"Thanks for such amazing music - the Love On Saturn EP is beautiful and full of funk. KiloWatts is defenitely taking house, funk, techno and other styles into new places - we will be playing this EP constantly for a long time, that's for sure!" - Signal Deluxe (Eintakt, Brouquade)

"All pretty solid freshness here - quirky goodness galore! 'Hyperion Hustle (In Retrograde)' is my sorta jack-joint. Fantastic, jackin'-IDM! I'll be playing this for sure - it's gotta turn heads big time." - Deepchild (Future Classic)

"Quite like this release. Fresh & slightly twisted, boppy tunes. My fave is 'Hyperion Hustle (In Retrograde)'." - Tyler Stadius (Fabric)

"Nice EP. Great sound design and attention to detail." - Alland Byallo (Nightlight, Liebe Detail)

"What I love most about KiloWatts is his continuous inventive progression and attention to sound design. All four tracks on this release showcase that talent to move and warp sounds while silky funking bass drives the dancefloor." - Limacon (Pokerflat, Resopal)

"'Hyperion Hustle' is great - definitely going to play this one." - James Teej (Rekids)

"This EP is awesome! Every track is superb. Right up my alley. Definitely be playing this out." - Andrew Duke (Cognition Audioworks)

"Solid EP. Really feeling 'Polar Orbit'. Beautifully deep with rich, sublime synths." - Jamie Kidd (Metalogic)

"This EP is excellent - as usual, KiloWatts steps up to the plate with flawless programming and superior musical construction." - Ben Goodwin (Archipel)
